Valiollah Ghadamian, a Baha'i citizen imprisoned in Evin prison, is denied medical leave.
Valiollah Ghadamian, a 67-year-old imprisoned Baha'i in Evin Prison, is being denied medical leave despite suffering from multiple health conditions. A source close to his family confirmed that Mr. Ghadamian is showing signs possibly indicative of tuberculosis or pneumonia, and his health is deteriorating. Since October 1st, he has been sent to the hospital several times, but due to poor coordination by prison authorities, these attempts failed. Finally, on October 7th, tests were conducted, but Mr. Ghadamian was quickly returned to prison, with results expected in the coming weeks. His condition has worsened, and he has experienced recurrent fever and chills.
The prison’s medical team has determined that treating him inside the overcrowded prison is dangerous, especially given the risks of viral infections. Despite approval from the prison doctor and other officials, the assistant prosecutor and judicial representative have denied his request for medical leave. The family's continued efforts to secure treatment for him have also been unsuccessful, heightening their concerns.
Previously, Valiollah Ghadamian was sentenced to two years in prison by the Tehran Court of Appeals in October 2022.
