The execution of Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh has been temporarily suspended.

Mohammadi Khiyareh, detained during the 2009 protests, had informed his family in a phone call that his execution was scheduled for Wednesday, December 18. He is currently held in Ghezel Hesar Prison and was sentenced to death on charges of "enmity against God" (moharebeh) and "membership in anti-regime terrorist groups linked to foreign intelligence services." His trial reportedly lacked access to a chosen lawyer and a fair judicial process.

Initially, the death sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court due to insufficient evidence, and the case was referred back to a parallel court. This court sentenced him to 15 years in prison for alleged membership in opposition groups. However, under ambiguous circumstances and with pressure from security agencies involved in the case, the previous ruling was overturned, and he was again sentenced to death on the same charges.

Following reports about the planned execution, human rights sources announced that the implementation of Mohammadi Khiyareh's death sentence has been temporarily halted.
