Mehdi Shakibafar, an attorney, was previously sentenced to 22 months and 16 days in prison and a one-year ban from practicing law on charges of "propaganda against the regime" and "criticizing Khomeini's mausoleum."

He was also sentenced to one year in prison and a nine-month ban from practicing law for referring to the victims of the November 2019 protests as "martyrs."

Providing pro bono legal representation to those arrested during the nationwide protests of December 2017, November 2019, and the national uprising in 2022 has also been cited as charges against this patriotic lawyer.
